Eating well is one of the best things you can do during pregnancy. Good nutrition helps you handle the extra demands on your body as your pregnancy progresses. The goal is to balance getting enough nutrients to support the growth of your fetus and maintaining a healthy weight. These classes will include the basics of not only what, but how much to eat, as well as vitamins/supplements, and fluid intake.
We acknowledge that everyone is different and will require individualized recommendations which can be discussed with the staff nurse midwife.
Please note that certain medical conditions should be discussed with your primary care physician.
The time after birth should be observed as a sacred bonding time between mom and baby. Mothers bodies require deep care and rest given you have just spent the last nine months growing a human being. Having a solid postpartum nutrition plan in place to nourish yourself back to health can be instrumental to healing and baby development. You can start by eating nutrient-dense foods to support your body after giving birth, which is one of the most profoundly useful things you can do in the first six months postpartum (and beyond). It's also important to remember that lactation also places high demands on the body, and decreased micronutrient stores can heighten postpartum depression risk.
